Agua Dulce (Guadalupe Rocio) Chavez (they/them, she/her), MA Clinical Psychology, is a queer abolitionist healing justice practitioner, therapist, flower and plant medicine maker and grower, and earth worker. They pride themselves in being a parent to a beautiful 8 year old mermaid.
Agua Dulce was born in Colima, a small state in Western Mexico on the central Pacific coast. At age four, she was brought to live and be raised in East Los Angeles, California which shaped how Agua Dulce saw herself as a migratory person with both strong roots in her Mexican culture and East LA pride. She was raised by her mother, Carmen Olga Chavez Herrera and her father, Miguel Rios Chavez. Her mother taught her to access alternative medicines and doctors in the border city of Tijuana; while using her own personal apothecary to heal Agua Dulce and her siblings at home. As a middle child of five siblings, Agua Dulce learned how to be in flow with others, and how to tap into her natural calling to be an empath and intuitive.
Agua Dulce’s deep commitment to abolition, transformative justice and healing justice are rooted in her parents’ fight to support their oldest son Jerry from inter-communal, police, and carceral violence. Bearing witness to Jerry’s path through depression, anxiety, addiction, incarceration and, ultimately, death deeply shapes Agua Dulce as an abolitionist and politicized healer. The intimate experience of loving her brother grounds her desire to center communities in the process of reclaiming their inherent right to live abundant lives despite systems of oppression. Agua Dulce’s healing practice prioritizes communities historically marginalized by systems of oppression: people of color, communities impacted by state violence and queer, trans & non-binary people. As part of her political work, she works with and organizes with families whose loved ones are incarcerated or whose loved ones have been targeted and killed by police and carceral violence.
